Introduction to Hindi-L
Welcome to the Hindi-L!
This listserve is primarily for Hindi language learners and other individuals who wish to practice, develop, maintain, or restore their language skills through communication with internet conversational partners around the globe. Native speakers are also welcome to join the list and be part of the discussions. There are two different listserves -- Hindi-L1 and Hindi-L2. Please read the descriptions below to decide which one of the lists might be best for you. Remember, you can join both the lists if you wish to do so.

Script/Font

Subscribers will use Roman script for writing their messages at this point because unfortunately the system is not quite ready to support Devanagari fonts.

Description of Lists

Hindi-L1
This list is for beginner level and intermediate level students who can express their thoughts in simple language. Participants can talk about self, school, family, friends, movies, and other topics of general interest. The length of an e-mail message may be anywhere from 3 or 4 sentences to a small paragraph. The language of e-mail messages may not be totally error free in this list because students may not have internalized all the grammar rules and other rules of language use.

Hindi-L2
This list is for students at advanced and other levels beyond. Students should be able to discuss a variety of topics and present their own views about issues. Students may write one or more paragraphs in an interaction.
