[RWD] [200] [1991] lh2.4 warm start issue (fine cold or hot)

Hi, The idle should be dead on the 750 rpm no matter if the air conditioning is on with cars that use an IAC. That is supposed to be the beauty of the IAC with an electrical actuation. You are either open too far on the throttle plate or butterfly plate, if it could bend in the middle. 🤫 A hinge mimics a butterflies body.😊 I have seen that type of air limiter where one side is spring loaded to close softly into the bores on carburetors or for chok...

[RWD] [200] [1991] lh2.4 warm start issue (fine cold or hot)

Glad the starter issue is behind you. For future reference so you don't get stranded, if the starter won't catch because of a dead spot in the windings or a sticky solenoid, you can often get it to catch by rapping hard on the starter motor a number of times with the end of something like a 2x2. Some mechanics will even get underneath with a hammer and beat on it. When I first encounter starter motor problems I start packing a 2x2 until I have time to replace the starter motor. On more than one...

[RWD] [200] Possible head gasket coolant leak? or ?

[Sorry, I somehow managed to reply to another post (system has been so slow recently), so I'll copy my reply from yesterday up to here in case it helps:] Sure does sound suspicious, but not as suspicious as it could be. There are a numnber of ways a head gasket can leak https://haynes.com/en-us/tips-tutorials/7-different-ways-head-gasket-can-fail Loosing coolant out through the exhaust pretty much means going through a cylinder unless it can somehow get out behind an exhaust valve. ...

[AWD] Feeling better this year

Like cars, not all doctors are equal. Last year at this time I was ready for Last Rights and was put in Hospice care. After eliminating all drugs, I stabilized and slowly started to improve. Things are looking so good that I dropped Hospice and am now walking again. All I need to do is gain about 40lbs. I no longer own a Volvo, even though an XC90 would be nice!

[RWD] [200] oil in carburetor reservoir?

More properly called piston dampers, many back in my Amazon days just called these dampers and the slides were damping cylinders. I never used engine oil, always ATF, but it may not matter a whole lot. Doing a little reading, almost any kind of oil will work and recommendations are all over the map. You could probably use Crisco oil from the supermarket and not notice a difference, but it would soon go rancid. I just refreshed my memory that there was a special SU Damping Oil known as SU20. I...

[RWD] [200] Cleanflametrap...

Art, Happy New Year! Glad to hear to your still kicking! I wish I had fixed it, but alas I did not, though I too can now get to it. Kind regards, Matt -- 1989 - 245, 1990 - 245, 1991 - 245, and 1993 - 245

[RWD] [700] [1990] rex/regina coil pack

Actually I had given some thought to the possibility of the timing being out of whack. That’s why I asked if it had recently been worked on. Being a 1990 740 I am assuming you have the cam-driven distributor rather than the side mounted intermediate shaft-driven version. First off, you have verified that the rotor is turning so you know the timing belt must still be in tact, but you don’t know if it may have jumped a few teeth. Normally you could use the tim...
