Classics: A Resource Guide

Classical antiquity refers to the civilizations of ancient Greece and Rome and spans the period from the eighth century BC to the end of the fifth century AD. This guide provides lists of classics materials as well as a section on search strategies.

Introduction

This guide is meant to acquaint researchers with materials on all aspects of classical studies at the Library of Congress. The types of items covered here include atlases, bibliographies, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and monographs.

Most of these resources can be requested in the Main Reading Room. However, there are a handful of items which must be requested in other reading rooms, namely the Law Library Reading Room and the Geography and Maps Reading Room. In the Library of Congress Online Catalog, clicking on an item will link to its catalog record which will indicate the item's location.
